A native Switch 2 edition

Nintendo's US store lists a product explicitly labelled Nintendo Switch 2. It is a separate listing from the original Switch edition. The page shows a release date of October 23, 2026.

Bandai Namco's launch announcement confirms Switch 2 as a launch platform alongside the original Switch. Toei Animation also names Nintendo Switch 2 among the platforms for October 23. Switch 2 owners therefore get a version made for their console from day one.

Nintendo of America released a Switch 2 announcement trailer on June 9, 2026. Its description confirms availability on both Switch and Switch 2. You can watch it on this page without leaving the site.

Backward compatibility is not the same thing

Nintendo's US page for the original Switch edition says it runs on Switch 2. That is backward compatibility, which lets you play a Switch game on the newer console. It does not give you the native Switch 2 edition.

Owning the Switch edition and playing it on Switch 2 keeps you on the Switch edition. The native edition is a separate purchase. Do not assume that one includes the other.

This distinction is easy to miss because both products share the same name and artwork. The system name on the product page is the reliable way to tell them apart. Look for Nintendo Switch 2 in the title before buying the native edition.

No upgrade and no save transfer

Nintendo's US Switch listing says upgrading the Switch edition to the Switch 2 edition is not supported. It also says saves cannot be transferred between the two versions. These two rules shape every buying decision on Switch 2.

If you start on the Switch edition, your restaurant stays in that edition. Moving to the native Switch 2 edition later would mean starting a new save. We found no announced upgrade pack or discount that would change this.

Nintendo also warns players to check which version they are buying to avoid purchasing twice. Read the system name on the product page before you confirm. Our eShop guide has a short checklist.

Which edition should Switch 2 owners buy?

If you only play on Switch 2, the native Switch 2 edition is the version made for your console. If someone in your household still uses an original Switch, the Switch edition can run on both consoles. Each person's save will stay with the edition they use.

No performance comparison between the two editions has been published. We cannot say that one runs better than the other. Choose based on the consoles you own and where you plan to keep playing.

The Switch 2 announcement trailer

Nintendo of America's announcement trailer is embedded at the bottom of this page. It was published on June 9, 2026, the same day Bandai Namco announced the game. The trailer's description confirms availability on Switch and Switch 2.

The trailer is promotional material, not a technical showcase. It does not establish native-edition performance or upgrade rights. Use the eShop product pages for those details.

Households with both consoles

Families with an original Switch and a Switch 2 have a real choice to make. The Switch edition runs on both consoles, while the native edition is made for Switch 2. Because saves cannot be transferred between editions, each restaurant stays with the edition it was started in.

Decide who will play where before buying. If one player might move from an original Switch to a Switch 2 later, keep in mind that the Switch edition save will not carry into the native edition. Nintendo's warning about duplicate purchases is worth reading for the same reason.

Size and download

The US Switch 2 listing showed an estimated size of 292 MB when we checked. That is a store estimate and may change by release. It is not a measured install size.

Nintendo's UK page lists what a digital purchase requires. You need a Nintendo Account, a linked console, current system software, an internet connection and enough storage. Purchases are made in the eShop for your account's region.

Release date and price

Nintendo's US page lists October 23, 2026 for the Switch 2 edition, matching the publisher's date. Other regions may show their own dates. Check the eShop for your account region.

Prices vary by region, so we do not list one. Pre-ordering secures the game but does not let you play early, as Nintendo's UK page explains. We found no public demo on the eShop when we checked.

What is not confirmed for Switch 2

No frame rate or resolution advantage over the Switch edition has been published. We also found no confirmed support for mouse controls on Switch 2. No upgrade discount has been announced.

These are common questions for Switch 2 releases, but this game's listings do not answer them. We will not fill them in with assumptions. Tested details will be added after launch.

About the game

ONE PIECE: Grand Gourmet is a restaurant management simulation from Kairosoft, published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Luffy and Sanji open Baratie Number Two after an impostor Baratie damages the original restaurant's reputation. You join as a rookie staff member and grow a modest ship into a floating restaurant.

You gather ingredients, cook with Sanji, build set menus and arrange more than 200 furniture and decor items. More than 400 characters visit, each with their own tastes. Steam and Nintendo list the game as single-player.
