Switch availability and release date
Nintendo's US store has a product page for the Nintendo Switch edition, clearly labelled with the system. The UK store has its own Switch digital edition page. Both show a release date of October 23, 2026.
Bandai Namco's launch announcement lists Nintendo Switch among the five launch platforms. Toei Animation's announcement also names Nintendo Switch for October 23. The original Switch is therefore a full launch platform, not a later port.
Prices and checkout availability depend on your Nintendo Account region. We do not list a worldwide price because it varies. Check the eShop in your own region before launch day.
Switch edition versus Switch 2 edition
Nintendo sells two separate products for this game. The Switch edition is designed for the original console and is listed as compatible with Switch 2. The native Switch 2 edition is a different product made for the newer hardware.
If you only own an original Switch, the Switch edition is the one you need. If you own a Switch 2, you can buy either one. Our Switch 2 page explains the native edition in detail.
Both products are sold digitally on the Nintendo eShop, and each page names the system it is for. Bandai Namco treats both consoles as launch platforms rather than listing one as a later port. That gives Nintendo players a clear choice from day one.
Upgrade and save transfer warning
Nintendo's US Switch page contains an important warning. It says the Switch edition does not support upgrading to the native Switch 2 edition. It also says saves cannot be transferred between those two versions.
In practice, a restaurant you build in the Switch edition stays in the Switch edition. Buying the Switch 2 edition later would mean starting again. The page also warns players to avoid buying a duplicate copy by mistake.
Playing the Switch edition on a Switch 2 is a different matter. Nintendo says it runs on the newer console. Your save then stays with the Switch edition you are using.
Play modes
Nintendo's UK listing shows that the Switch edition supports TV mode, tabletop mode and handheld mode. That means you can run Baratie Number Two on the television or take it with you. No mode is listed as unsupported.
The game is listed as single-player. You play as a rookie staff member working with Sanji and the Straw Hat Crew. No local or online multiplayer has been announced.
Cloud saves: a regional conflict
Save backup and save transfer are different things. Even if cloud backup is available, it would not move a save from the Switch edition to the Switch 2 edition. That rule comes from Nintendo's US page.
The UK and US listings describe Save Data Cloud support differently. Because they conflict, we cannot confirm cloud backup for every region. Check the listing in your own eShop if cloud backup matters to you.
Buying and downloading on Switch
Nintendo's UK page explains what a digital purchase needs. You need a Nintendo Account, a linked console, current system software, an internet connection and enough free storage. Purchases are made in the eShop for your account's region.
Pre-ordering secures the game but does not let you play before release. Nintendo states this directly on the UK listing. We found no public demo on the eShop when we checked.
Nintendo's announcement trailer
Nintendo of America published an announcement trailer for the game on June 9, 2026, the same day Bandai Namco announced it. The trailer's description confirms availability on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It is the most direct sign that Nintendo platforms are a key part of the launch.
The trailer does not establish performance details or upgrade rights between editions. Those rules come from the eShop product pages instead. You can watch the trailer on our Switch 2 page, where it plays directly on this site.
Performance on Switch
Nintendo and Bandai Namco have not published frame rate, resolution or load time targets for the Switch edition. No independent test compared it with the Switch 2 edition either. We therefore make no performance claim.
The game uses Kairosoft's pixel art style, which Bandai Namco highlights for its more than 400 characters. That art style alone does not prove how smoothly any version runs. We will add tested notes after launch.
What you do in the game
ONE PIECE: Grand Gourmet is a restaurant management simulation developed by Kairosoft and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. You join the Straw Hat Crew at Baratie Number Two after an impostor Baratie damages the real restaurant's reputation. From a modest ship, you grow a floating restaurant.
You gather ingredients, cook with Sanji, build set menus and arrange more than 200 furniture and decor items. More than 400 characters visit as customers, each with their own tastes in food and decor. Fulfilling their requests turns them into regulars.
Switch edition FAQ
Does the Switch edition run on Switch 2? Yes, Nintendo's US page lists it as compatible with Switch 2. It still remains the Switch edition when you play it there.
Is the game multiplayer on Switch? No multiplayer has been announced, and the game is listed as single-player. You run the restaurant on your own with the Straw Hat Crew.
Is the Switch edition cheaper than the Switch 2 edition? Prices vary by region, and we have not compared them. Check both product pages in your own eShop before deciding.
Should you buy the Switch edition?
If you play on an original Switch, this is the edition for you. If you own a Switch 2 and might only ever play there, compare it with the native Switch 2 edition first. Remember that there is no upgrade path between them.
Check the date and price in your own eShop before buying. Make sure the product page names Nintendo Switch, not Nintendo Switch 2. Our eShop guide has a short checklist for buying the right version.
